Getting the Most from Indirect Costs
Tuesday, May 10, 2022 | 1:00 p.m. CST | Zoom
Presenting: Karen Norris
Owner/Principal of Kanoco Consulting

Applying for or managing indirect costs was never simple, and the revised uniform guidance has introduced new options. Nonfederal entities that currently do not have an indirect cost rate can request a "de minimis" or 10 percent flat rate for indirect costs. For nonfederal entities with current indirect cost rates, the type of rate you select and the way you calculate the rate can make a difference in your ability to recover overhead and administrative costs. But there's more…an extension period under certain circumstances, cost allocation plans, and a new planned web portal for posting indirect cost rate agreements. Getting indirect costs right means navigating complex provisions and avoiding potential audit findings. Here’s an overview, and a good place to start.

Learning Objectives:
  • Define direct and indirect costs.
  • Gain awareness of uniform guidance requirements relating to indirect costs.
  • Recognize different indirect cost rates.
  • Review considerations to obtain a rate.
  • Increase understanding about cost allocation plans
